guild master has just been assassinated! When the guild met to
choose a new leader accusations flew and chaos ensued. Finally,
one young member suggested a foolproof method to determine
who would be the best leader of the assassins. All eligible
guild-members would participate in a game to see who would
be the sneakiest, deadliest, most cunning assassin in the guild.

Each player begins with one badge, and takes a badge from
each player they assassinate. When a player loses their last
badge, they are out of the game. Assassinations are completed
by getting a masking tape X on the target. Full rules are
available at the registration desk.

At the end of the weekend, the player with the most badges is
the winner. There can be only one Assassin!

A short summary of rules include:

Tape will be provided. If you wish to use your own tape, you must have it sanctioned at the registration desk.

You cannot be seen by your target when attempting to make an assassination.

You must display your badges on your person at all times on your right shoulder or sleeve.

All disputes will be settled by our Assassin judge.Michael Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12829754911299623731noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7515430743333437105.post-22579618061839660902013-02-23T16:24:00.000-08:002013-02-23T16:24:53.650-08:00Artist Alley at RudiconThe Artist Alley is returning to Rudicon this year!

The Artist Alley is a group of self-employed artists,
craftsmen/women and hobbyists who enjoy selling their work at
conventions. Some of these things include jewelry, chain mail, key
chains, buttons, stickers, written works and commissioned artwork of
anything from portraits to full character information sheets. All the
prices, products and profits are managed independently.

First, we recommend you watch this video detailing Rudicon from the GameBreak podcast!
http://vimeo.com/60143472

For the Magic: The Gathering multitournament event during Rudicon, we have added an additional event and moved the events on Saturday. The Cube draft will be starting at 10:00 am on Saturday and there is now a Box Draft at 2:00 pm. In a Box Draft, a box of magic cards is emptied onto a table and players have only a couple minutes to grab cards they want to use. This event is similar to the Cube Draft in that you do not keep the cards you draft and also qualifies you for the Oldies Draft. The entrance fee is $5, but the event is also covered by the $25 qualifier fee. The Rochester draft is also pushed until 6:00pm.

For Pentathalon contestants: The team limit is now down to three! The roleplaying game event no longer requires the entire team's participation.

I hope everyone is excited for Rudicon!Michael Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12829754911299623731noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7515430743333437105.post-1594406248762186652013-01-31T19:43:00.001-08:002013-01-31T19:43:53.534-08:00Game Showcases at Rudicon 2013Rudicon is an event about experiencing and learning about new games, and what better way then checking out some of our game showcases! This year at Rudicon, we'll showcase four board games over the course of the weekend. These showcases will be around all day and games should be starting over frequently enough for those who are interested to jump in and play a round at any point.

On Friday, we are showcasing Game of Thrones: The Board Game in the SAU lobby. Game of Thrones: The Board Game is a four to six player game about forging alliances, diplomacy, and military might. You can find the Board Game Geek page here.

On Saturday, there will be two board games. One of them is Charon, Inc. Charon, Inc. is a game in which you compete with other players over territory on Charon, the largest moon of Pluto. Three to five players can compete in this board game. You can find the Board Game Geek page for Charon, Inc. here.

The other board game on Saturday is Dragon Rampage. In Dragon Rampage, three to five players compete with each other by running and fighting a dragon that they have awoken, attempting to collect more treasure than the other players (even by stealing from others). Each player has unique abilities and perks, too, that influence the way they play the game. You can find the Board Game Geek page for Dragon Rampage here.

On Sunday, the showcase game is Battle of Westeros. Battle of Westeros is a one-on-one tactical minis game that allows the two players to recreate battles in the Song of Ice and Fire story. One player commands House Stark while his opponent commands House Lannister. There are multiple battle scenarios which can be played out and you can even create your own, adding to the replayability. You can find the Board Game Geek page for Battle of Westeros here.Michael Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12829754911299623731noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7515430743333437105.post-26520156299454113122013-01-21T22:24:00.000-08:002013-01-22T13:39:12.858-08:00Magic: The Gathering Rudicon TournamentAt Rudicon 2013, we are running a unique Magic: The Gathering tournament. There are four tournaments in total, the first three of which qualifiers for the final. Those who place in any of the three tournaments on Friday and Saturday qualify for a final tournament on Sunday. Each tournament has its own prizes, in addition to qualifying for the last tournament. It is possible to pay for the tournaments individually or sign up for all three. Prizes will be Gatecrash Booster packs for all events.

On Friday, there is a Gatecrash draft. This is your basic booster draft where 8 players sit around a table and each receive three packs. Each player then opens one of their packs, selects a card, and passes the pack to their left. The players then continue this until the packs are empty. The second pack is then opened and the process repeats, except the packs are passed to the right. The third pack is the same as the first. Once this has been completed, each players forms a 40 card deck out of any of the cards they drafted and basic lands which are supplied. The entrance fee is $15. Players are allowed to keep the cards they drafted (returning the basic lands) in addition to prizes for those who do well.

On Saturday, there are two drafts. One of the drafts will be a Rochester Draft. This functions very similarly to a normal booster draft, but the packs are opened one at a time and are laid out so all players get to see which cards are chosen. This causes the drafting process to take much longer but means that you have more information about what decks people are playing. The entrance fee is also $15 and players keep the cards they drafted. There will be prize support for those who do well.

The second draft on Saturday is a Cube Draft. A Cube draft is also similar to a booster draft except that the cards do not come from standard boosters. Instead, a card pool called the Cube is created before hand from about 360 cards. These cards can come from all sorts of sets and rarities and are assembled in packs. The draft runs very similarly to a standard booster draft except the cards are not kept in the end. The fee is $5 in this case because of that, but there will still be prizes.

The final draft is on Sunday. It is a booster draft composed of many old sets (an oldies draft). In order to play in this draft, you must have placed in one of the other three drafts. There will be extra prizes for this draft. The top two players of this draft then go on to face one another in a Gatecrash Winston Draft. The Winston draft is a very odd format which you can read more about here. The winner of this will receive a substantial prize.

If you wish to attend the qualifier drafts, the total fee is $25.

In addition to these qualifier and final tournament drafts, there will be rolling Gatecrash drafts throughout the 'con. If enough players are looking to draft, than a draft will begin. These drafts will not be used as qualifiers for the final draft on Sunday.
Teams consist of four or five players working together to win some of the great prizes available.

The categories? Board, card, roleplaying, minis, and video games.

Each player represents their team as individuals in one facet of the Pentathalon, with the exception of the roleplaying event. The details for each game will not be released before the competition starts, requiring players to think on their feet and preventing any single team from specific practice and unfair advantage. Players will earn points for their team based on how they rank in each individual game event.

For Rudicon 2013, we are excited to announce a teamwork component to the Pentathalon tournament. The roleplaying event will require three players from each team to compete cooperatively while the video game team member competes in his or her event. Please check our calendar to learn more about when Pentathalon events will take place throughout the weekend.

The entrance fee is $5 for the entire team. This amount will be due when your team checks in at the conference registration table in the SAU lobby on Friday evening.

In order to participate, you can sign up with a full team of 4-5 members, a partial team of 2-4 members, or as an individual looking to fill in. Staff members will work to introduce any "looking for group" competitors and help in forming full teams so that all interested parties can participate.

All team registrations and LFG requests must be submitted NO LATER than 11:59 pm on February 17. Unfortunately, no late registrations can be accepted so that the event runs smoothly for all participants.

To sign-up, or if you have questions, email us at pentathalon.reg@gmail.com with the following information:

Names and contact information (emails) for each team member

If you are registering without a full team (less than 4, or a group of 4 wanting a 5th), please include each known team member's preferred events (in order from greatest to least interest). We will work to accommodate your requests as best we can.

We hope that the 2013 Pentathalon will be the best all-around tournament yet!Michael Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12829754911299623731noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7515430743333437105.post-84149254840644335212012-12-02T06:32:00.004-08:002012-12-02T06:32:51.878-08:00Event Creation Up and ReadyWere you looking to create an event at this year's Rudicon? If so, you can register an event now! Creating an event is easy and takes little time. Just fill out this form and we will add it to our calendar of events. If you are unsure of what each field is asking for, we have a step-by-step instruction set up for just that. Even if you don't want to register an event yourself, you can always request an event, too.

Rudicon is driven off of guest created events and it is a great place to try out your new game or meet a new group for an RPG. With time slots available all three event days, there is plenty of time for you to run multiple events, too! Creating an event ahead of time rather than trying to get something going impromptu will also get your event in our guidebook and secure you a room if you would like one.

As always, feel free to email rudicon@gmail.com with questions or comments. We hope to see your event registrations soon!Michael Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12829754911299623731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7515430743333437105.post-91966300410019334742012-05-02T19:13:00.001-07:002012-12-03T17:32:03.128-08:00Rudicon is RIT's annual gaming convention hosted by RWAG.
